Transformers 2 - Release and Marketing
By Michael Nielsen

Transformers 2, the science-fiction film is the latest sensation, and is the most awaited movie of the year. After the huge success of Transformers and the unimaginable amount of love and support given to the characters and actors by the fans, Transformers - Revenge of the Fallen, is considerably anticipated by the enormous fan following.

The film is soon to be released on June 8, 2009 in Tokyo, Japan, June 19, 2009 in U.K and in U.S on June 24, 2009. Michael Bay as director and Steven Spielberg are once again bringing an original entertainment for the huge audience. The duo shook the multiplexes with Transformers, and now is planning to sway the industry once more.

With Shia LaBeouf once again acting as Sam Witwicky, and Megan Fox as his girlfriend Mikaela Banes, the couple would once more face the Decepticons and would try to outdo them with the help of their Autobot friends. The film was shot at several locations with the main focus being Egypt.Out of many amazing yet dangerous scenes, three scenes were shot with IMAX cameras. The IMAX footage is said to be 3D and the scenes involve Optimus Prime. Now, that would be interesting to watch our favourite robot on IMAX. What a treat that would be!!

The cast and crew of the film to help promote the film have done many guest appearances, interviews, and TV shows. New and latest toys of the robots are introduced. The old and favourite toys have been modified and have interesting new features and gadgets. The latest line of toys for Transformers' sequel introduced by Hasbro includes new models of all the robots that are introduced in the film. The old robots have new colour schemes and new moulded elements.

The toy of our most favourite car Bumblebee would be released on 30 May, 2009 alongside the robot toys of Soundwave. Additional toys are due to be released in August, 2009. Those will include many human figures along with some transforming and non-transforming car reproductions.

A new video game is being launched by Activision made by Luxoflux. Embedded marketing is being done by several multinational companies including Burger King, LG phones, Wal-Mart, YouTube, Nike, Inc. and M&M's. Paramount believes that a major reason for the first film's great success was the promotion and marketing through advertisement.

An Idea and Design Works prequel formally named Destiny was to be published. Later, it was split in two parts namely, Alliance ad Defiance which would feature humans and Autobots. A comic book adaption as well as a novel publication is being done for the film's promotion. Some false rumours were also circulated on different sites by the filmmakers themselves to add speculation and interest among the fans. Every new character and robot was hidden from the media's eye, and gossip was circulated at large to increase curiosity.

These tricks have helped to increase and maintain the interest of the fans of Transformers. The rumours, the latest toys, comics, and new characters are attracting more and more audience day by day. Now, the audience is waiting for the release of the movie impatiently.

All About Transformers - Revenge of the Fallen
By Michael Nielsen

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen is a sequel of Transformers 2007. In both the versions, we can see the continuous battle of vicious workings of evil. Transformers 2 is an action packed movie with numerous new characters. The Decepticons, Autobots, and Humans all work together in the development of the story.

The movie is marked with drama, action, suspense, thrill, speculation, tragedy, grief and joy along with strong characterizations and perfection of plot. All the characters project high levels of energies. Just like part 1, we see here the goodies fighting with the evils to protect the world and humanity from the evil clutches.

Surprisingly, we see Megatron again in Transformers 2. One of the Constructions resurrects him. He comes to life in part 1 also with the help of a small robot: Construction. The difference in the story of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen is that now the Decepticons are after Sam to get some information from him regarding the origin of the Transformers.

This information came to Sam in the form of some visions that he gets from the remains of Allspark. Sam is shown going to a college to learn astronomy. He is away from his girlfriend Mikaela as she is not able to go to the college due to financial reasons, and is working at a motorcycle workshop. Sam has also got another human helping hand; Leo Spitz. Bumblebee will also be staying away from Sam, which one can hardly expect after watching the first part. He can't accompany Sam to the college as any fresher is not allowed to park his car at the college.

The Autobots too have a delicate touch with the addition of a female Autobot Acree. Amongst the Decepticons, a new and very important character is introduced: the Fallen. It is the Fallen whose name is seen in the title of the movie. We will enjoy the movie with a new line of Construction/ Devastators too.

With an impressive sound track by Linkin Park, the scenes create quite an impression. The scenes have been shot at different locations, with Egypt being the most prominent of all, where the final battle has been filmed. Other places include Bethlehem, Philadelphia, New Mexico, Tuscan International Airport, and Pennsylvania. IMAX cameras have been used to shot the action sequences of the movie, which make it all the more impressive.

Special effects in this movie are worth watching. Real F-16 Fighting Falcon has been used in the movie to make it look more life-like. Tank fire, which we see in the movie are also real. Enhanced designs of the robots have been used to make them look deadly and ferocious. Hasbro has worked quite hard on the designs of the robots, both the Decepticons and the Autobots. This time the filmmakers have dedicated more of the budget to the effects.

The most interesting part of the movie is its battles. For elevated marketing of the film, its premier will be shown in Tokyo, Japan by the 8th of June 2009. After that, the movie will be released in UK and USA.

Donald Trump Made the Right Decision
By Barbara Morris, R.Ph.

As I watched Annie Duke and Joan Rivers duke it out for the title of Celebrity Apprentice I tried to be fair in my assessment of their competence.

Both women qualified as winners but in choosing Joan, The Donald demonstrated that he understands that advanced age should not be a measure of competence. Even though he made negative reference to Joan's age a couple of times, and it concerned me that it was a tipoff that he was going to be predictable and choose the young and pretty Annie Duke, he finally made the right decision. Perhaps he saw in Joan the specter of his own advancing age, and how people will judge him when he is "over the hill" by cultural standards.

Trump's decision was a huge win not just for Joan Rivers, but for all midlife women who want more out of their remaining years than playing shuffleboard in a retirement community. He gave every older woman with a fire in her belly the green light to do what she wants to do - age be damned.

Donald did more than hand the trophy to Joan. He made her Role Model of the Year. In our shamefully ageist society he raised the consciousness of everyone about the value and abilities of older women and for that he is a winner.

Aside from her triumph, Joan is proof that traditional retirement is for the birds. She is testimony that if you maintain your health, have a purpose in life that benefits not just yourself but others, you don't have to decline.

Her feisty energy and business accomplishments demonstrate that age 75 is not the end of the line. Because she has chosen to avoid traditional retirement and instead, continue to grow and be productive, she is enjoying a lifestyle that women who want to be ageless can emulate.

Joan decimates the concern of every midlife woman who yearns to achieve an unfilled dream but feels held back because of the culturally sanctioned notion that "I'm too old to do that." Joan will never be too old to do what she wants to do because she has discovered the key that unlocks agelessness. Joan Rivers has not only empowered every midlife woman to believe in herself, but she also demonstrates what is possible when women avoid the decline oriented senior culture, and instead, live productively. It's the ultimate anti-aging magic.

Five Essential Steps For Developing Your Own Reality TV Show Or Documentary Film
By Hector V. Herrera

These five steps will help you set out on the path towards developing your own reality TV show or documentary film with a professional, well thought out concept and a solid 30 second pitch.

1. THE HOMEWORK: The first step in developing your show or documentary film is research. As you begin flushing out your idea, do your homework. Think of all the reality TV shows you've seen in your lifetime. Which ones did you enjoy most? Why? Make notes of them and actively search for and try to find the most successful shows resembling your concept and ideas. You are going to need those in order to write an effective "log line" for your Reality TV style online video series, program or blog.

2. THE TREATMENT: Step two in the process of creating a sound TV show or documentary concept, is to write a one-page treatment. If you are writing a treatment for a reality TV program or documentary film, then begin the treatment with a single solid and well-written paragraph that grabs the reader's attention and briefly introduces them to the each of the themes you will cover in greater detail in the paragraphs below it. Dead simple... Right?

3. THE LOG LINE: Once you have a solid treatment down you can move on to step three. You will need to create a truly effective log line for your reality TV show or documentary film. Remember that a Log Line is a brief summary of your TV show or documentary concept, it should give a brief synopsis of the main plot, and what makes it different or unique, as well as what makes it similar, to other programs.

4. THE STORYBOARDS: The fourth step in developing a good reality TV show or documentary film concept, is to illustrate your point and that means creating storyboards to visualize your concept. You want to give the reader a visual feel for your TV show or documentary. Do some homework on branding techniques and search for royalty free images that will help illustrate your story. If your concept is for a reality TV show or even for a documentary film or series, don't be afraid to shoot stills with a digital camera or use stock photography to create your storyboards.

5. THE ONE SHEET: The final step in developing your concept for a TV show or documentary film is to put all of the pieces together into a single one sheet document that includes your log line, edited copy, a few key images and a brief synopsis of your reality TV show or documentary film concept. For an reality TV show or documentary film producer, this is the equivalent to a head shot for an actor or model, or a sizzle reel for a director or cinematographer. It's your calling card and the one thing anybody will ever really read all the way through. You need to grab the reader's attention immediately or it will quickly end up under a pile of other really great ideas, or most likely, under another thousand or so really mediocre ones.

Utilize each of these steps to focus on telling your full story in a clear and succinct fashion. The reader will appreciate it and will likely give it do time and consideration, which is likely to be 30 seconds or less. But, then again, it only takes an instant to make a good decision. Believe me, the media industry is beaming with content created in this exact way! If you follow the general guidelines in these examples you will have a short document that explains your brand vision clearly and professionally.

Ironically Luck by Chance - At 'The New India'
By Frank Ravtiz

It's a common story when it comes to an individual struggling to make it be a star in the film industry. A similar line drawn here except the movie is based on this concept. The hero hails from the capital with hopes, dreams and aspirations to become a star in the famous film producing industry in India, 'Bollywood'. It is not easy as it seems as it's not just a small industry where a new comer's presence is never noticed, acknowledged is far from this.

The guy meets his other counterparts running the race with him to the goal of getting a lead role in the films. And hence the meeting with the heroine who has struggled much before him and is still not made it to the finish line. They say that 'its all matter of luck in the famous 'Bollywood''. Well in the yesteryear this phrase would have been true. But not anymore with so many budding talented artists fighting the battle to get into the movies even for a small role as a starter if not the main cast. For the present times its more of hard work, dedication, commitment, talent and loads of other factors, not to forget the charisma and the power to get the audience to love you. To add to all the requirements one also has the existing legends who have their positions almost fixed and ruling the films. Similarly our hero also faces the struggles.

With the exit of a superstar from big project game our hero a big break into the films, which one can call it coincidence or the shine of the face of the luck fairy, thus racing past the heroine. Now there need compromises to be made in order to keep the new found fame. However the story takes an abrupt climax turning the focus to the girl. The story culminates on a pragmatic note, though it evades such treatment through its run by not getting hard-hitting heavy or regressively realistic.

Almost every character in the film has grey shades though not glorified to extreme extents. The movie reveals the double standards of industry people though not showing them in an outright negative light.

The Pleasure of Being Katrina Kaif, the Most Successful Bollywood Actress
By Arunraj V.S.

Katrina Kaif, the sexiest actress in Bollywood is now voted as the 'Best actress' by Bollywood Trends readers. Here are Katrina Kaif's achievements. Beware, they can make the women green with envy and men pink with admiration

1. The sexiest woman in India: FHM magazine in 2008 termed Katrina Kaif as the sexiest woman in India in its list of the sexiest women in the world.

2. The talented actress: Though yet to win a major award for a performance based role, she has improved radically with every passing film. Insider sources say that she has excelled in the de-glam role of a politician in Rajniti.

3. Her string of successes: Katrina Kaif has been having continuous back-to-back hits right from 2007, if you discount the aberration-Yuvvraaj. Her successive hits from 2007 include Apne, Partner, Welcome, Race and Singh is Kinng.

4. Most famous brand ambassador: Katrina is the brand ambassador to top level products like Mango slice, Coke, Samsung, Veet, LG, Fevicol, Lakme, Fame Nakshatra, Spice Telecom and Pantene brand of shampoos. In fact, she is the only female in the top 5 brand ambassadors of the country. She lags behind Shahrukh Khan and Mahender Singh Dhoni.

5. Katrina is top from behind too: Ha ha..Simply goes to say Katrina has the best butt in Bollywood. The lovely lady has a perky butt which can be... well, icing on the cake. Butt... excuse me, but; it ain't over yet. The vivacious actress has tough fight, be it on the butt front or performance front from the spunky Kareena Kapoor. The best thing about the two lovely actresses is that both Katrina and Kareena Kapoor are friends and fond of each other.

6. Katrina Kaif can be dangerous too: Katrina Kaif is the most Googled celebrity in India. But therein lies the danger. According to the 'The Web's Most Dangerous Search Terms' report the actress is one of the most dangerous online search words and searches related to her name can come up with results that pertain to malicious software and online scams.

Blockbuster DVD Rental - Why Choose Blockbuster Over LOVEFiLM
By Shaun Clarke

Lovefilm and Blockbuster are by far the top two online DVD rental companies in the UK. But which company offers you the best value for money and better service. Initially it would seem that there's not much between them both having similar pricing and a catalog of over 65,000 titles to choose from. However it's not until you've actually used both companies that the differences become painfully apparent.

I run a few movie review sites and so I get through a lot of films and I've had the unique opportunity to try both services side by side and here's what I've found.

Firstly I chose the unlimited plan with both companies, great I thought an unlimited supply of films delivered to my door what could be better. Well actually there is something better but I'll get to that in a minute.

The first thing that I noticed almost immediately was the huge difference in turn around between the two. Lovefilm just couldn't get the DVDs out quick enough, I'm not sure why their distribution system is so slow but they're at least a day behind Blockbuster. And that might not seem important at first, but over a month it vastly reduces the amount of DVDs you can get for your money... it is supposed to be unlimited after all.

I'll just quickly get to the point I made earlier about a better alternative, You can now get your movies from the store as well as online with Blockbuster, which cuts out delivery if your in a hurry!

If you were unsure which one to choose I hope I've helped you make up your mind. Having your unlimited plan throttled by sluggish delivery makes Lovefilm a poor choice and not good value for money.

The Lesser Acclaimed Film Directors of Bengali Cinema
By Amit Bhattacharya

Bengali cinema has seen many bright directors since its inception. The great Satyajit Ray, Ritwik Ghatak, Mrinal Sen and Tapan Sinha are a few who established themselves globally as great directors. However, besides these top few names, there are also some directors who gained fame by presenting some valued films, although they were branded as commercial film makers. Ajoy Kar, Asit Sen and Tarun Majumdar are a few names that come first to the mind, in this category. There are some more directors namely Rajen Tarafdar, Barin Saha and Arabinda Mukhopadhyay also, but they made very few films. There was also a time when a group of directors made films for good entertainment. The groups Agradoot & Yatrik belonged to this category.

Ajoy Kar started his career as a cameraman and later started directing films with great settings. He made Jighangsha a film in the early 1950s based on the famous Hound of the Baskervilles, and it became an instant sensation. Harano Sur, an Uttam Kumar - Suchitra Sen starrer, made him famous in the late 1950s and after that he became an established director with a number of hits in his kitty. Saptapadi, another blockbuster, was also made by him. Then came Atal Jaler Ahwan, Kanchkata Heere, Parineeta etc. with Soumitra Chatterjee as the leading hero. His Saat Pake Bandha, another huge hit, fetched laurels for the leading actress, Suchitra Sen, across film festivals. Being a superb cameraman, himself, he knew what would be the perfect angles, for the picturisation of a scene in a good film.

Asit Sen was also a good director and his many films were re-made in Hindi Cinema at a later stage. The most famous of his films was Deep Jwele Jai. Suchitra Sen played the lead actress in the film, and received several awards for this role. Later this film was re-made in Hindi as Khamoshi, with Waheeda Rehman in the lead, which also received much appreciation by the audience. Another of his films, Uttar Phalguni was produced by Uttam Kumar, and became a big hit. The lead actress was again, Suchitra Sen and her acting with the emotional storyline made the film unique in itself. This film was also re-made as Mamta, with Suchitra Sen herself in the Hindi version as well. Mr. Sens another, though lesser known, film Swaralipi was made with Soumitra Chatterjee and Supriya Choudhury as in the lead. The storyline was based on the struggle of a refugee girl from partitioned Bengal, aspiring to become a lead singer in the commercial world, who loses her voice and then regains it later in the film. Geeta Dutt was the key playback singer in the film, which was among the last of her career.

Tarun Majumdar initially started as a director in a group Agradoot. Later he started off on his own with Palatak, which had a nondescript star cast, but had a strong story and memorable songs in it. It contained soothing visuals of Bengali villages and rivers, and the film was widely accepted by the viewers and opened a new era of Bengali cinema. He specialised in presenting simple stories based on villages with good entertainment value for the viewers. Balika Badhu was another film which made him famous. It was

rich in Bengali culture and had a wide variety of songs which became instant blockbusters in Bengal. Sansar Simante was another film in his career, but it was the film Dadar Kirti which opened up another side of his career.

World's Largest Movie Releases Per Year - It Happens Only in India
By Frank Ravtiz

India takes its stand as one of the oldest film industries in the world. During the early 1913 is when an Indian film received a public screening. The first director to venture into the film industry and to make it a grand success was 'Dadasaheb Phalke'. With his movie, 'Rajah Harischandra' had an extraordinary success due to the exuberant response of Indian masses. Since then, the Indian Film Industry never looked back.

Hence started the burgeoning of Indian Film industry and the growth of its caliber to continue doing so. In 1931, introduction of sound in the films started the format in Indian films establishing song and dance as part of the storytelling. It also split the film industry along language lines: these broadly being the Hindi belt in the north and the two other major language blocks in the south along with the existing languages. Thus India could build a distinct indigenous industry to serve its cinema-crazy, predominantly illiterate audience.

The golden age of Indian cinema arrived at 1950's where the actors and the beautiful actress' became the gods and goddesses, along with directors producing spectacular and powerful films. Hence the film-stars ruled not just the industry but also the hearts of the Indian film goers. This era also introduced playback singing, giving rise to singers dominating the music industry for the next half century.

Films ran themes of social issues that interrogated not only the institutions of marriage, dowry, and widowhood, but the grave inequities created by caste and class distinctions that received the obvious reactions from the Indian masses. A few others that had mythological touch from the Indian Epics and the others with the Indian History retold.

Movies with a handsome hero and beautiful heroine spun love stories with musical or dance sequences, of course with the heinous villain as encumbrance to the sweet romance of the couple, adding to a lot of action between the duo became a grand success and since became the main subject of most movies that were to come. The next generation of the film-stars inherited the role and stage of their senior legends. These new stars radically changed the landscape of the Indian entertainment industry with more of glamor and sensuality continuing to be the order of the day. The big budgeted movies were shot at international locations to get the attention of the viewers and grab the blockbuster positions.

At the turn of the millennium, Indian movies have seen the markets and the expectations of 'Bollywood's' traditional audiences change irrevocably. Films dealing with the current affairs and those that contained revolutionary ideas took the lead to break the normal love story or love triangle that had become the popular story base. With media rising to a new dimension, advance technology and the expansion of its horizons, 'Bollywood' released more number of films with different story lines thus rising to be the world's largest film producing industry. Not just capturing Indian viewers but also the movie buffs around the world, making its mark in the film industry overseas. The future of Indian film's success depends on whether it can change and adapt to the demands of this new market without losing its core identity; and whether the rest of the world will accept it when it has.

Movie Review UK - Lesbian Vampire Killers
By Ricky Davies

What's it about?

The story in this movie is based around a small hamlet based in England, UK. This hamlet has had a curse put on it, however, and when the girls in the hamlet turn 18 they suddenly turn into lesbians. Kind of sounds like my home town, anyway that's not the worse part, however, they also turn into vampires. The town's people have set up a deal with the lesbian vampires; if the town's people provide the vampires with fresh meat then they get to live.

Enter Gavin and Stacey - stars James Corden and Mathew Horne, two friends who have had troubled lives, the one can't keep a job as he works as a clown but hates children and often ends up punching them and the other keeps being rejected by his girlfriend. The couple decide to make a new start in their life and decide to go hiking. Their luck soon seems to take a turn for the better as when they reach a little hamlet they are greeted with free beer, a free place to stay, and it's also occupied by very beautiful and attractive women. However their luck truly hasn't changed and they soon find themselves trying to get laid while trying not to get eaten by the lesbian vampires outside their house.

This movie isn't a classic comedy but it does produce some laughs and the dialogue on times is pretty funny, the movie however is let down by a slow pacing and some unneeded scenes. However having said that I do still believe lesbian vampire killers is worth watching and I award this movie a blood sucking 3 out of 5 vampire bites.

Are Serious Dramas an Endangered Species?,

I don't get out enough. But when I do, I most always learn something.

Attending a party last week, I saw something new: Between the bar area and dance floor was a connecting room, and passing through it, I noticed many party-goers lining the walls, each in isolation checking emails on their Blackberries.

Checking emails- in the middle of a party?

Before wireless portable devices, when you went to a social event, you had to jump in and give yourself over to the experience. In this scenario of forced socialization, very often you actually met someone new and perhaps pursued some unplanned adventure.

Now, if people at a party look unfamiliar or uninteresting, you don't really need to engage. You can simply step out, check your email, and see if you can't find a more reassuring, recognizable face to hook up with across town.

You have to wonder, does this new behavior fulfill the promise of the digital world by opening up channels of communication, or is does it close them down?

And just what is the long-term price to be paid for technology that reduces our focus, patience, and attention spans?

Let's consider this in relation to film. Regardless of technology's impact, it seems the public will always pay to see anything that transports them away from reality. Regardless of quality, fantasies, comedies, action films, and comic book adaptations are here to stay, because for the most part, they hold our attention and go down easy.

But what about serious drama - by which I mean realistic, unflinching dramas about regular people facing authentic life challenges, both big and small? These pictures may be less entertaining in the moment, but often end up shedding valuable perspective on the human condition - insight you won't find in your average spine-tingler or farce.

Will the prospect of venturing into uncomfortable, unfamiliar cinematic territory increasingly make us retreat to check our I-Phones at the popcorn stand, or worse, prevent us from buying a ticket in the first place?

Based purely on box office results, it would appear serious drama is not taken seriously, or to be more precise, not taken much at all.

While larger-than-life escapist hit franchises (Lord Of The Rings, Harry Potter, James Bond, Pirates Of the Caribbean, Indiana Jones, Batman, Spiderman, and A Night At The Museum) routinely gross between $500 million and one billion dollars, just consider the scale of difference in revenues for these ten critically acclaimed serious dramas:

The Reader - $67 MM Gross
Milk - $51
Doubt - $46
Capote - $42
Into The Wild - $22
Little Children - $15
The Savages - $8
Frozen River - $2.5

Understanding the sizable differences in distribution and marketing might placed behind these distinct types of movies, the fact remains that though most of the features listed turned a profit, the degree of payback to the studios was dwarfed by these blockbusters.

It's also a matter of exposure and eyeballs: If even Oscar winners "Milk" or "The Reader" are drawing only a fraction of the audience commanded by "A Night At The Museum", you can believe either variation on the following theme: a) many people simply aren't moved to see a potentially "difficult" film, or b) studio executives decide in advance they won't be, and so don't make the movie easily accessible to them.

Tying back to the Blackberry phenomenon, a subtle but disturbing cycle emerges, whereby easily distracted consumers get fed what will still command their diminishing concentrations and tolerance, while movies that demand more but offer more in return become, like that stranger you never meet at the party, a lost opportunity.

Mind you, even before the advent of the Palm Pilot, movies whose chief aim was diversion and entertainment always attracted the biggest audiences. The issue comes down to balance and degree: Looking back over the top-ten box-office titles of the now distant past, you can find a few serious films sprinkled in among the comedies and epic adventures, with titles like Gone With The Wind, Mr. Smith Goes To Washington, The Best Years Of Our Lives, The Bridge On The River Kwai, and The Graduate.

But in the ensuing forty years leading up to the present, no films of this type have ever broken the top ten at the box-office. Suffice it to say, I wish one would.

Here then are five serious, human-scale domestic films that deserve a wider audience:

You Can Count On Me (2000)- Scarred by the loss of their parents years before, siblings Sammy and Terry Prescott (Laura Linney and Mark Ruffalo) have pursued different paths in life. She's settled into domestic life as a single mother, while he leads a troubled existence on the road. After a two-year absence, Terry visits and asks to borrow money, then sticks around as he bonds with Sammy's 8-year-old son, Rudy (Rory Culkin).

This fascinating film examines how two very different siblings cope with a single, life-changing tragedy, and how this event affects their own interactions. Thanks to a sharp script and assured direction, this complex relationship is portrayed with a nuanced mix of humor and heartbreak. Linney received an Oscar nod for her portrayal of Sammy.

In The Bedroom (2001)- When their college-age son Frank brings home his new girlfriend, Nathalie (Marisa Tomei), parents Matt (Tom Wilkinson) and Ruth (Sissy Spacek) are apprehensive, since Nathalie is a mother of two whose volatile ex won't let go of her emotionally. Neither of them wants to believe that Frank's life is in danger, or can imagine how they'll respond when and if the worst happens.

Todd Field's impressive directorial debut maps the consequences of inconsolable grief and corrosive ill will on a Maine couple. By turns tense, shocking, and devastating, "Bedroom" showcases gut-wrenching, exquisite performances from veterans Wilkinson and Spacek, whose emotional turmoil feels frighteningly real.

Tape (2001)- In a seedy motel in Lansing, Michigan, bright, under-achieving drug-dealer Vince (Ethan Hawke) is reunited with high-school friend Jon (Robert Sean Leonard), now a film-maker. Vince launches a gradual attack against his self-satisfied pal, accusing Jon of date-raping Vince's former girlfriend Amy years before. To make matters more interesting, Amy (Uma Thurman) happens to live nearby, and Vince has invited her to join them. This makes for a most unconventional high-school reunion.

Director Richard Linklater dares to sustain a drama on a single dingy set, and thanks to a biting script and superb performances, succeeds. Though Thurman expertly plays the pivotal role of Amy, less a victim than a detached female looking on with bemusement at two ranting males, the show is Hawke's and Leonard's, as their characters wage a savage battle of wits, with life-changing implications. Taut and clever, "Tape" is immensely satisfying fare.

Away From Her (2006)- Soul-mates Fiona (Julie Christie) and Grant (Gordon Pinsent) have led a long, happy married life together in the rural comfort of Canada's northern climes. But when Fiona's memory begins to slip, and she becomes alarmingly disoriented, they seek out a facility to handle her care. Then a turn of events spurs Grant's guilt and conflict over past indiscretions.

Director Sarah Polley's "Away From Her" observes with elegiac warmth and delicacy the emotional turbulence visited upon a couple in their silver years by the onset of Alzheimer's. In her directorial debut, Polley (best known as an actor) coaxes exemplary turns from her talented cast - especially from the still-radiant Christie, whose mounting fears and erratic behavior prompt her move to a nursing home, where she begins to forget the man she's spent most of her years with. Plaintive yet defiant, "Away From Her" is a touching study of marriage which even Ingmar Bergman would be proud of.

Half Nelson (2006)- Seeking to impart real ideas instead of dry facts, eighth-grade history teacher Dan (Ryan Gosling) likes to engage his inner-city students in meaningful conversations, and has established a good rapport with most, especially Drey (Shareeka Epps), a bright student whom he also coaches on the girls basketball team. But Dan's personal life is clouded by heavy drug use, a secret Drey soon discovers, purely by chance.

Gosling gives a fearless performance as the idealistic young educator who has a confident manner in the classroom, but whose addiction problem is starting to affect both his job performance and his friendship with Drey, played with a mix of sheepish charm and street-hardened intensity by Epps. Smart and stridently unsentimental, "Half Nelson" will get its grip on you. By John Farr

Paying Tribute to Those Who Died For Our Freedom - Taking Chance,

I have seen a lot of movies in my time, but I've never seen one like this one. This movie takes a look inside something that most of us never think anything about: what happens when a US military service member is killed in battle.

I'm sure that many of you have seen the pictures of the caskets as they come into Andrews Airforce Base in Dover, Delaware. It is a sobering reminder of what happens when a country is at war.

The question is, what happens to those caskets after they come in? This movie answers all of those questions, and it does it in a very moving way.

The story is based on an essay written by LTC (Retired) Mike Strobl. Strobl volunteered in 2004 to escort the remains of a young man killed in Iraq.

This is about Strobl's personal journey. Strobl is working at Quantico, Virginia as a manpower-deployment analyst. He feels guilty because although he served in the first Gulf War, he hasn't deployed overseas this time. He volunteers to escort the remains of a young marine from his hometown.

The young man he escorted was Chance Phelps, a marine killed in the April 2004 surge, one of the bloodiest parts of the war. Although Strobl doesn't know Phelps, he wants to do something to honor this young marine because they're from the same hometown.

What I liked the most about this movie is that it gives a rare glimpse into what really happens behind the scenes when a US service member dies. Each set of remains is treated with the utmost respect. Service members are carefully prepared for burial, and they are buried in a perfectly prepared uniform regardless of whether the service member is viewed during the funeral or not.

I have to say I cried. As a veteran, these are my brothers and sisters who are dying. As a parent, this could have been my child.

By the end of the movie I felt like I knew the people in this story, who they really are/were, and what their lives were really like.

Regardless of your feelings on the war, this movie is a reminder of the high cost of war, and what our service members have done for us. It is a relief that at least in death we are able to render them a type of respect they might not have received in life. By Jinger Jarrett

  3. Lead Guitar Notes - Beginner Guitar Music Theory by Frank A Smith

Which lead guitar notes are the right ones to play? How do you know whether to play in a minor scale or a major scale? How is the mood of the song going to be changed by the solo you choose to play? These are the sorts of questions any reasonably experienced guitarist asks him or herself whenever composing a new song, or adapting an existing song to fit their bands playing style (or more often than not... the lead singer's vocal range). Figuring out which lead guitar notes to play can be very frustrating for this reason.

15. Lyric Analysis - Mental Exercise by Tina Sanchez
To listen to a song is soothing, and usually with more complicated lyrics, we take time to read through the wordings and, if possible, relate them to our own concerns or form our opinions on them. The content of songs is only one or the other: they are outright explained or hidden beneath metaphors and other symbolisms. Finding out what you favorite tune means is a good way to go deeper into your music appreciation as well as a good way to exercise your analytical skills.
